Dyke win 2019 Parks League

Dyke secured the 2019 Parks League Division 1 title last night after a hard fought draw away to Hove.

Needing to win all four matches to overtake Dyke at the top of the table, the final 2-2 scoreline meant Hove had to settle for second place.

“It’s been a long, tough season, and this is a fantastic way to end. It’s been a team effort, and we’re delighted to have the Charles Beckett Shield back at Dyke,” said team captain Sebastian Puga.

BHPLTA’s Mick Cox said: “There are 16 competitors here and they’re all good players. The quality has been excellent – a great advertisement for the Parks League.”

Each Parks League team is made up of eight players, four female and four male, split into four doubles pairs: mixed 1, mixed 2, mens pair and ladies pair.

Before the competition got underway, Hove captain Stephen Milonas outlined his team’s simple strategy: “Stop Seb.”

Dyke’s Seb Puga, the three time Parks Cup mens singles champion, has lost only one Parks League fixture all season (to Park Avenue).

Unfortunately for Hove, Puga – brilliantly supported by Joanna Marlow – wrapped up the competition with a 6-3, 6-2 victory in the Mixed 1 tie over Hove’s Basia Suzin and David Redinha. That result effectively secured the title for Dyke.

The Mixed 2 was won by Hove’s Milonas and Joanna Davies, with the Pollard Brothers (Josh & Tom, Hove) winning the mens doubles tie.

Dyke’s Kim Dawson and Emily London won the ladies soubles. See full results below.
